In Irish mythology — Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or "darker-half" of the year.
I miotaseolaíocht na hÉireann — is féile Ghaelach í Samhain a dhéanann ceiliúradh ar dheireadh shéasúr an fhómhair agus tús an gheimhridh nó "leath níos dorcha" den bhliain.
Samhain had three distinct elements. Firstly, it was an important fire festival, celebrated over the evening of 31 October and throughout the following day. The flames of old fires had to be extinguished and ceremonially re-lit by druids.
Bhí trí ghné ar leith ag Samhain. Ar an gcéad dul síos, féile thábhachtach dóiteáin a bhí ann, a ceiliúradh tráthnóna an 31u Deireadh Fómhair agus i rith an lae dár gcionn. B'éigean lasracha na sean-tinte a mhúchadh agus draoithe a lasadh arís go deasghnách.
